Dear CGU Faculty and Staff:

We hope that you are enjoying the summer. Time flies so quickly, and the start of the 2022-23 academic year is just a few short weeks away.

With that in mind, we want to share with you some important updates and changes concerning our COVID-19 policies and procedures in accordance with L.A. County’s public health guidelines, which CGU has followed (and will continue to follow) throughout the pandemic.

Vaccination status
CGU requires all faculty and staff to be fully vaccinated, which is defined by the CDC and county public health guidelines as receiving a single Johnson & Johnson or double Moderna/Pfizer dose.

This status does not currently include the boosters.  However, public health officials remind us that getting vaccinated and boosted remains a critical tool for staying as safe as possible, especially when transmission remains high.

Updated records: Because COVID-19 continues to change, in order to be proactive in the face of any developments this fall, we would ask all faculty and staff to please update your vaccination records online with Human Resources.

This information is confidential and can help us should a need arise this fall to change our policy.

Exemptions: Medical and religious exemptions will continue to be allowed and must be submitted for review and approval by our exceptions committee  (vaccine.exemptions@cgu.edu).

Masks
Because of reduced cases and hospitalizations, the L.A. County Department of Public Health has decided not to implement a universal indoor mask policy, at least for the present. CGU is following that guidance and does not require indoor masking.

However, we strongly encourage members of our community to wear masks indoors due to the transmissibility and possibility of reinfection with recent COVID variants.

Testing
This fall, there will be no mandatory daily health check-in for anyone on campus.

If you are sick and think you might have COVID, please get tested and remain off campus until you have a negative result. There will be no mandatory testing for employees or students who have been approved for a vaccine exemption.

If the test confirms you have COVID, faculty and staff should report the infection to HR, and students should report the infection to Student Health Services.

Please see updated information about testing and quarantining on the CGU website and additional information from L.A. County’s guidance for higher education.

****

As everyone knows, the pandemic has proved to be an ongoing, fluid situation. Please keep in mind that the information outlined in this message is subject to change pending updates from the county’s public health department.

CGU is committed to maintaining a safe environment for our community, and we encourage everyone to make health safety a priority and to respect others’ health choices.

If you have any questions, please consult our website for additional updated information or contact CGU’s Human Resources.
