Dear CGU Students,

Welcome back! We hope that you are enjoying the summer. Thank you for supporting our efforts to plan your return to campus this fall. With the start of the 2022-2023 academic year just a few short weeks away, we ask for your partnership as we prioritize our academic mission and your health and safety. CGU will continue to follow all L.A. County guidance while providing high-touch service to our students.

With that in mind, we want to share with you some important updates and changes concerning our COVID-19 policies and procedures.

Vaccination status

All CGU students must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to coming to campus. Fully vaccinated is defined by the CDC and county public health guidelines as having received a single Johnson & Johnson or double Moderna / Pfizer dose. This status does not currently include boosters. However, public health officials remind us that vaccinations and boosters remain critical tools for staying safe.

Exemptions: Medical and religious exemptions will continue to be allowed and must be submitted for review and approval by Student Health Services.

To remain in compliance with our policy, all continuing students must:

All new CGU students must:

Students should re-submit their vaccination record ONLY if they:

    • Have not previously done so
    • Their status has changed

Cross-registered students must adhere to 5C vaccination policies, including the vaccine booster, and should upload their updated records with Student Health Services. Please review the institution policies: https://www.pitzer.edu/, https://www.cmc.edu/, https://www.hmc.edu/, https://www.scrippscollege.edu/future-students/, https://www.pomona.edu/

Immunization Appointments

Student Health Services will have availability for immunization appointments during the week of August 22 through August 26.

Testing

This fall, there will be no mandatory daily health check or testing program for students with approved exemptions. If you previously received an approved exemption and your status remains the same, you do not need to act. If you previously received an approved exemption and your vaccination status has changed, please submit your updated records to Student Health Services.

The Claremont Colleges will continue to monitor cases. Your support in making healthy decisions is appreciated. If you become Ill and think you have COVID, please get tested and remain off campus until you have a negative result. If the test confirms you have contracted COVID, please report your status to Student Health Services and adhere to quarantine guidance: http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/acd/ncorona2019/covidisolation/?

Masking

Because of reduced cases and hospitalizations, the L.A. County Department of Public Health has decided not to implement universal indoor masking. CGU is following that guidance and does not require indoor masking. However, we strongly encourage members of our community to wear masks while indoors.

Student Employees

If you are a full-time student working part-time as a student employee, then your primary status is a student, and you are subject to the guidelines for students. If you are a full-time staff member and enrolled in a degree program part-time at CGU, then your primary status is staff. However, you are expected to notify both HR and Student Health Services if you have tested positive or come into close contact with someone testing positive for the Covid-19 virus. Student- employees should contact CGU’s Human Resources for updated information.

****

As we gradually and safely return, students are encouraged to use outdoor spaces for dining and studying. These spaces include the School of Arts and Humanities backyard and Hagelbarger’s Courtyard. Hagelbarger’s Café remains open from 9:00 am-1:00 pm during the week. Cross–campus dining at the 5C’s will resume this fall.

The pandemic has proved to be an ongoing, fluid situation. Please keep in mind that the information outlined in this message is subject to change pending updates from L.A. County’s Public Health Department.

For additional information regarding Immunizations & Vaccinations, please contact Student Health Services. Review our Information for Students page for general return to campus information and academic continuity. If you have any questions, please contact the Dean of Students Office at deanof.students@cgu.edu.

Your support is essential and appreciated, and we thank you for your ongoing cooperation.

Thank you,

CGU COVID-19 Committee
