President Jessup and the entire CGU Cabinet have been following the pandemic closely and looking forward to announcing plans for our return to campus. With the pandemic numbers in California and the Los Angeles area continuing to decline, the COVID-19 task force has been asked to initiate the return plans and processes. The health and safety of our community continue to be the foremost priority as we implement a phased return to campus. Limited campus presence is expected for module II summer session beginning in July, and a full return of staff and faculty by August 16 for a fall term start date of August 30.

Vaccinations are the best defense against COVID-19. CGU will require the COVID-19 vaccine for students, staff, and faculty who plan to return to campus for the fall semester. Proof of vaccination must be submitted at least two weeks prior to your return and no later than August 1. This requirement does not apply to individuals working remotely. Free COVID-19 vaccines are available from the Student Health Services at TCCS for all CGU community members.

The vaccination requirement is conditional upon full approval of one or more vaccines by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, as well as adequate availability of the fully approved vaccine(s).

Students can upload vaccination and medical records through the Student Health Services Portal. CGU staff and faculty can upload their Covid-19 vaccine card to the Office of Human Resources. Vaccination information will be kept confidential and only available to those who need to know the information.

Exemptions may be requested for a medical reason or religious objection. Individuals who are granted an exemption and who need to come to campus will be required to follow the regular screening testing for COVID-19 and other protocols for non-vaccinated persons whenever they are on campus, as recommended by the LA Department of Public Health in guidelines for higher education.

Nearly 250 million vaccine doses have been administered in the United States. Data about vaccine safety and efficacy is available on the CDC website.

More information about the return to campus will be distributed in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your help in keeping the CGU community safe and for supporting a robust return to campus. We look forward to seeing our colleagues, continuing students, and new students in the fall.
