Dear CGU Students,
CGU and its faculty continue to prepare for the possibility of moving classes and meetings online in response to threat of COVID-19. Fortunately, there remains no known case of the COVID-19 on the Claremont College campuses. We are committed to supporting you to continue your courses and finish out the semester. We recognize that there are varying levels of comfort and knowledge with doing using technology to aid academic continuity and want you to know we are here to help.
Any student or faculty member who wants to join classes remotely may do so. We are working as quickly as we can to support classes to move online. Please contact your faculty member directly about how we can accommodate you.
For international students there is an additional step necessary to ensure we register your online work with SEVP. In response to emergency protocols associated with COVID-19, the Student & Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) requests that any SEVP-approved institution moving partially or fully online notify them within 10 days of implementation. To comply, the SLDL Office asks each faculty member who plans to move their spring 2020 course online to email the following information to Ariel Carpenter at ariel.carpenter2@cgu.edu:
- Mode and classroom setting (i.e. computer lab, students with laptops in a classroom connected to Wi-Fi, etc.)
- How the faculty member/department will provide oversight of these students
- The name and program of the class taught online
- Projected length of time for online instruction
Failure to provide this information may inadvertently affect the immigration status of students on an F1 visa, and the university’s status to enroll F1 students. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ariel at ariel.carpenter2@cgu.edu, or view the SEVP guidance at https://www.ice.gov/doclib/sevis/pdf/bcm2003-01.pdf.
Be assured that Canvas and Zoom tools are fully supported by our Office of Information Technology.
Please contact OIT Helpdesk at helpdesk@cgu.edu or 909-607-1874 if you have any technology questions.
Do let us know how we can help!
Sincerely,
Patricia
Executive Vice President and Provost
