Community Memo on the Presidential Search

TO: The CGU Community

FROM: Mike Rossi, Chair, Board of Trustees

RE: Presidential Search

I am pleased to announce the formation of the Search Committee for the President of Claremont University beginning July 1, 2018. This summer we began the search process to identify that individual who will lead the University for at least the next five years with transparency, inclusiveness and accountability. We are seeking a leader who is best able to build on CGU’s inherent strengths as a leading research and teaching institution, and will continue to strengthen the investment that the CGU community has made in the administrative and academic reorganization of the past five years.

This individual must possess all of the talents expected of a university president, including a compelling vision of innovation and growth for CGU, the ability to raise significant funds, the experience necessary to continue sound financial and administrative management and the knowledge and stature to lead CGU academically and represent it to the world. In addition, this person must have an understanding of the unique environment of CGU and have the ability to function in a small but academically excellent research and teaching institution with a mission to address important issues in ways that will make a difference in the world.

We have established a broadly representative Presidential Search Committee to be chaired by Trustee Donald Baker and include the following representatives:

Board of Trustees: Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tim Kirley, Ernie Maldonado, Mohannad Malas, John Pritzlaff, Beverly Ryder and Megan Scott-Kakures
Faculty: Faculty Chair Joshua Goode, Yan Li, Lucinda McDade and David Pagel
Deans: Jenny Darroch, Drucker School
Administration: Leslie Negritto, Chief Financial Officer
Students: Marquisha Spencer, President of the Graduate Student Council
Staff: Rachel Jimenez

The Search Committee will conduct an open search, advertising the position nationally and to the Claremont Colleges community. The search will be conducted by CGU with some administrative assistance from an outside firm. Applicants may apply on a confidential basis in the first round of review and will become open candidates after the selection of a group of finalists. Following its deliberations, the Committee will recommend one or more candidates to the Board of Trustees for final selection.

The Search Committee will issue a formal announcement of the application process and timeline for completing the search.
